DHI — Direct Hair Implantation
Maximum control over angle, depth and direction — for an exceptionally natural hairline, graft by graft.
What Is DHI?
Implantation without pre-made channels
Direct Hair Implantation uses a specialised implanter tool — often called a Choi pen — to place each follicle directly into the scalp, without the need to open recipient channels beforehand. This gives the surgeon precise control over the angle, depth and direction of every graft, resulting in dense, natural-looking coverage with minimal handling time for each follicle outside the body.
The Procedure
What to expect, step by step
Consultation & Design
Your surgeon plans hairline shape and graft distribution based on your donor density and desired outcome.
Follicle Extraction
Follicular units are extracted individually from the donor area under local anaesthesia.
Direct Implantation
Each follicle is loaded into the implanter pen and placed directly into the scalp at the calculated angle — no pre-made incisions required.
Recovery
Downtime is typically short; most patients resume light activity within a few days.
Recovery & Results
Density that develops naturally
As with FUE, transplanted hairs shed within the first weeks before regrowing permanently. DHI's precise placement often allows for tighter graft spacing, which can translate into a denser final result — visible progressively over 8 to 12 months.
