Traveling abroad for surgery adds a layer of planning most patients haven't dealt with before. None of it is complicated, but knowing what to expect in advance makes the whole trip far less stressful.
How long to plan for
Length of stay depends on the procedure. Hair transplants typically require 3–4 days in Istanbul, covering the procedure day and a follow-up check. Facial and body plastic surgery procedures often require a longer stay, generally 7–10 days, to allow for early recovery and post-operative review before flying home.
What's typically arranged for you
- Airport pickup and drop-off
- Transport between hotel and clinic
- A translator, if needed, for consultations
- A clear day-by-day itinerary before you arrive
What to bring
- Loose, comfortable clothing (especially for hair transplant patients, avoiding anything pulled over the head)
- Any current medication, in original packaging
- A copy of recent medical records, if relevant to your case
- A phone charger and entertainment for recovery downtime
Flying home safely
Most patients are cleared to fly a few days after their procedure, once the clinical team confirms recovery is on track. Compression garments, medication schedules, and movement recommendations for the flight are typically covered in a pre-departure briefing.
Aftercare doesn't stop at the airport
A responsible clinic stays reachable after you've flown home — for questions, concerns, or simply reassurance during the following weeks of recovery.
