Sapphire Fue Method

Local anaesthesia should be performed before extracting the hair follicles from the scalp area, called the “donor region”, and forming the sites that will receive them in the “receiving region”. Since anaesthesia is injected directly into the scalp, it takes only a few minutes to start working.

For patients who are afraid of syringes and the slight pain they cause, there are other alternatives, implementable without any problem. A quite effective example is sedation.

Instead of using steel scalpels, the Sapphire FUE technique uses knives made in sapphire to open the micro channels in the receiving region. The Sapphire FUE technique offers a more modern and precise method for performing hair transplant surgeries.

These blades are purposefully designed to minimize the presence of crusts and scars in the receiving area, speeding up the healing process, and promoting the opening of smaller and more accurate micro-channels. With the Sapphire FUE technique, after applying local anaesthetics to the patient, the hair follicles are extracted one by one from the donor region through the use of a micro-motor, equipped with a punch with dimensions ranging from 0.6 mm. to 0.8 mm.

The extracted hair follicles are inserted into the incisions performed in the receiving region. These cuts must have an exact density, angle and direction to effectively have a successful result, and provide an hair growth that is as natural as possible. For this reason, the opening phase of these micro channels is considered one of the most important in hair transplantation.

Nowadays, the best method to open these micro channels is through the use of blades in sapphire. They are sharp, smooth, resistant and have sizes ranging from 1.0 mm. to 1.5 mm. With these sapphire scales it is possible to cut micro-channels of the same size as the hair follicles, further creating them by inserting the follicles closer together.

Some hair transplant centers say they can transplant by inserting 65 to 70 follicles per square centimeter, advertising a more dense and natural result. This is not possible with the use of either sapphire or steel scalpels.

In order to achieve a natural looking result, hair follicles must be implanted while considering the patient’s hair growth features. If the follicles were implanted in amounts of 65 to 70 per square centimeter, a natural result would not be expectable, as it would not be possible to make so many incisions while minding the right direction. This way, hair growth would not have a natural appearance due to its density.

The angle of natural hair growth ranges from 40 to 45 degrees. Considering the previously expressed density, hair follicles should be implanted perpendicular to the scalp, causing something called “doll effect”, a very unnatural appearance.
