Beard & Mustache

Biberie Transplant Beard & Mustache

During recent years, beard and mustache gained importance as a way to determine men’s status, and their fall could cause concerns. For this reason, the beard and mustache transplant procedure may be the best solution in case of baldness due to testosterone, or for men needing a thicker and more regular appearance in this area.

Use of the FUE technique for beard and mustache transplantation.

The transplant performed in the beard and mustache area is done in the same way as the head hair transplant, i.e. using the FUE technique, the best and latest of all. Using this technique, the hair follicles are withdrawn from the donor region, the back of the head, and then transplanted into the recipient region.

As with hair transplants, the procedure done in the beard and whiskers area involves the use of local anaesthesia. After surgery, the presence of scars or dots in the donor region will be so small it will only be visible through magnifying glass.

Stages of beard and mustache transplantation.

  • Pre-visit: the patient must undergo a consultation with the doctor and the whole team specialized in transplantation. The patient’s needs in the affected area and the amount of hair follicles available in the donor region will be evaluated.
  • Surgery: during the procedure, the team will take into consideration the direction and growth angle of beard and mustache hairs, in order to obtain the most natural result possible. As mentioned previously, this transplant has two main phases: the extraction of hair follicles from the donor region and their implantation in the receiving region. These hair follicles will be manipulated through the FUE technique.
  • Postoperative: after surgery, the specialized team will describe the necessary dressing and cleaning procedure to the patient.

Who are the ideal candidates for this transplant?

Men who want a thick and natural beard and mustache may consider to undergo this type of surgery. But the ideal candidates for carrying out this procedure are still men who have suffered a considerable loss of hair, or have a beard or mustache with bald spots. Furthermore, it is important that they have enough hair in the donor region to perform the surgery.

What is the healing process?

A week apart from the transplant, the “repaired” area will appear very natural. The donor region will also return to normal and healthy within 15 days of surgery. The rules to follow during healing are the same as those given after capillary transplant surgery using the FUE technique. The positive effects of the surgery are immediately visible; the almost definitive effects will take place month by month, with a thick and natural beard and mustache appearing after a maximum of 12/18 months, as the process completes itself. All this depends very much on the age of the patient and on his hair growth speed. On average, after 8/10 months, patients are happy with the result achieved.
